What makes this a troubling photo, however, is that these men are talked about today as the American men that risked everything by signing a document. But did they really risk all that much? What about the recognizing the slaves they owned who helped build the foundations of our great nation?

What this graph does not show us is why standards should or should not be implemented. I like this pie chart because it helps us see that while so many people can have different voices, it is not going to help us until we come together and work on something that can help us reach the same common goal. And that goal should be to help ensure that all students are successful. http://www.corestandards.org While many of you may have already posted this source, I really like this because it allows students to see why standards are put into place and why it is important to learn the standards.

Big Question: In America, do we value power over reality, or do we struggle to teach the truth moving forward? Interactive Site Another point I forgot to mention, but I think is important is the idea that in America, we often study figures of heroism that are of white descent and are males. During this reading, we are learning about a white male that was not a good human being, yet we still have a holiday named after him and some schools and stores are even off on the holiday. This to me is an example of historical favoritism and I think it is going to be up to us as teachers to stop it. Screencast
